HomeLessNESS and Poverty - Speaker INFo

During this workshop, we will hear from Chris Mayes and Marianne Friedman on how to care for those we pass on the street and those we know in our lives who are struggling with financial instability.

Chris Mayes is the lead pastor of Communitas Church, which meets at the New York City Rescue Mission, where her husband Craig is the director. After spending many years homeschooling her three children (now grown) in the suburbs of Detroit, Chris and Craig began to work with the poor and sick in rural India. This opened Chris’ heart to new levels of compassion, kickstarting a move to New York City and the founding of Communitas, a community largely devoted to working with the homeless.

Marianne Friedman spent many years suffering from addiction and depression before entering a women's discipleship program and finally giving her heart to Jesus. She now works as the Women's Program Director at New York City Rescue Mission, which has been open since 1872, and helps women struggling with addiction and homelessness find their way of the dark.
